HKCC 50th Anniversary “HKCC & Friends” Concert Series: Sing Across Horizons

07/04/2019

“HKCC & Friends” Concert Series first started 10 years ago in 2009. To celebrate HKCC’s 50th Anniversary and commemorate the contributions and achievements of the choir, HKCC alumni, friends and over 2,000 choir members gathered and presented 2 concerts at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall on 7 April.

Mr Lau Kong-wah, Secretary for Home Affairs, was invited as officiating guest of the opening ceremony. Together with Mr Yam Tak-fai Ronald, Chairman of the Board of Directors; Mr Lee Yat-wah Walter, Chairman of HKCC 50th Anniversary Preparatory Committee; Dr Darwin Chen, Honorary President; Mr Fung Yuen, Honorary Adviser; Ms Yan Hau-yee Lina, HKCC Director; and Ms Kathy Fok, HKCC Music Director and Principal Conductor, the concert commenced with the striking of the gong.

Outstanding performers from different art forms were invited as special guests. They include Hong Kong Festival Wind Orchestra; Mr Harry Wong, renowned children TV program host; Mr Warren Lee, pianist; Set Tone Men, a cappella group; Ms Alison Lau, soprano; Heartgrey, National Beatbox Champion; as well as vocalists: Mr Albert Lim, Mr Alex Tam and Mr Apollo Wong. Working hand in hand with HKCC members, varied works from classic hits to original works by special guests were showcased at the concerts. These collaborations brought sparks to children choral music.

The concerts concluded with guests and choir members singing Composer in Residence, Dr Steve Ho’s HKCC 50th Anniversary Theme Song I Just Want to Sing.   Music Video of the song with HKCC historical and classical moments was first broadcasted during the concerts. The latest version which includes clips submitted by members, parents, alumni and friends is now available on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLpVr-z-IDo).
