Instrumental Programme

Instrumental Programme

HKCC instrumental program offers courses in percussion, handbell and harmonica. Through ensemble playing and group performances, members can build team spirit and develop ensembleship skills. Harmonica training also helps improve singing skills. Mini-Concerts are held annually to provide members with performing opportunities. Fun-filled class activities make learning more enjoyable and improve members’ sense of rhythm and body coordination.

Harmonica Class

Members will learn a series of unique techniques from world harmonica champion Gordon Lee, including the "Ha" breath-blowing technique, tongueless articulation skills, and "flutter-tonguing" technique, among others, while simultaneously improving their singing skills through harmonica performance. In addition to solo playing, the course will also cover various performance styles such as duets, trios, quartets, octets, small ensembles, and large ensembles, fostering a professional and dedicated learning attitude among members. Members are required to purchase a harmonica, costing approximately HK$400–2,000.

Handbell Class

Handbell ensemble is a musical art form that emphasizes collaboration. Each member is responsible for controlling one or more handbells (or desk bells) of different pitches, playing melodies according to the score using various handbell techniques. This course will adopt the children's music education concepts of Kodály, Orff, and Dalcroze, using handbell ensemble to train children in multi-faceted coordination, rhythm, listening skills, and harmony, among other foundational musical abilities. While enjoying the fun of handbell ensemble, the program also fosters a sense of responsibility and self-confidence in children, encouraging mutual tolerance and appreciation within the team.

Percussion Class

This course offers formal Western percussion training, allowing members to learn foundational music and performing arts knowledge to enhance their sense of rhythm and musicality. This aims to boost members' interest in music while fostering discipline, focus, self-management skills, and a spirit of cooperation through group practices. Members of the introductory class are required to purchase two sets of percussion sticks, while members from P1 to P5 need to purchase a percussion kit (including a glockenspiel and drum pad), costing approximately HK$1,200–2,000.
