HK Phil X HK Ballet: Carmina Burana

  • In collaboration with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Chorus and renowned soloists Vivian Yau, Ren Shengzhi and Elliot Madore, The Hong Kong Children's Choir was invited by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) to perform at the “HK Phil X HK Ballet: Carmina Burana”. More than 300 dancers and musicians participated in performing the Asian premiere of the choreography of Carl Orff’s masterpiece. Straddling literature, dance and music, this performance took audience on a historic journey to experience some of the important moments in the Middle Ages.

     

    Staged at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Grand Theatre, 5 performances of “HK Phil X HK Ballet: Carmina Burana” was held from 14 to 16 October for three consecutive days. HKB Choreographer-in-Residence Ricky Hu opened the performance with a world premiere of The Last Song, followed by Artistic Director Septime Webre’s Carmina Burana. Led by HK Phil Resident Conductor Lio Kuokman, HKCC members from Senior B, HK Phil Chorus and soloists performed O Fortuna in the opening part, as well as Amor volat undique and Tempus est iocundum in Part 3: Cour d'amour to celebrate unrestrained love. At the end of the performance, our members joined the chorus Ave formosissima and concluded the concert with a reprise of O Fortuna, receiving a resounding round of applause from the audience.
