Date: 11/12/2023
Under the leadership of Music Director and conductor Jerome Hoberman, one of the Hong Kong's longest-standing choirs – The Hong Kong Bach Choir presented its seasonal opening concert "Orff Carmina Burana" on 11 December at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall.
Performed by members of the Choir and Orchestra, The Hong Kong Children's Choir (HKCC) and Chorus Master Apollo Wong, the concert presented three works: Cantata Nr. 4: Things Unseen, Op.29 by Chicago composer OZNO, Five Negro Spirituals from A Child of Our Time by Michael Tippett and Carmina Burana by Carl Orff.
Selected for this occasion was the 1956 version of Carmina Burana arranged for two pianos and extensive percussion, featuring pianists Vanessa Wong and Linda Yim, Timpanist James Boznos (OZNO), and Percussion ensembles from Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra members. HKCC Senior B members' performance filled the concert hall with vibrant energy. Their precise and harmonious singing beautifully complemented the soloists: Baritone Caleb Woo, Soprano Colette Lam, and Tenor Henry Ngan. The concert concluded in a big round of applause from the audiences.
