While summer holiday has just begun, The Hong Kong Children’s Choir has already returned from 2 concert tours! During 9 to 21 July, members of Concert Choir toured to Australia for “Festival of Voices” in Hobart, Tasmania, and held a fund-raising concert for CanRevive at City Recital Hall, Sydney, which also marks the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of HKSAR. Right after that, members of Senior A and B travelled to Zhaoqing on 24 to 26 July for “6th China Children’s Choral Festival”, where they gave demonstration performance at concert and sang at the closing ceremony. Soon after their return, HKCC held “Post-Tour Concert 2017” in Auditorium, Kwai Tsing Theatre on 28 July to stage selected programme from the 2 concert tours for Hong Kong audience.
Under the lead of conductor Mr Alex Tam and accompanist Ms Patience Fung, Senior A and B appeared on stage to start the night with 2 pieces of sacred music, Festival Sanctus and Cantate Domino, followed by 3 local Cantonese works, including Drawing Doraemon arranged by their conductor, in which members illustrated the loveable cartoon character with lively movements, as well as π3.14, in which member sang out the endless number of pi, making the audience smile. Choir members then expressed their aspiration and hope to the future with Measure Me, Sky, Credo and Like a Rainbow. To end the first half of the concert, they performed the jazzy Chattanooga Choo Choo with dance, winning a loud round of applause.
After the intermission, led by two HKCC alumni, conductor Mr Dominic Lam and accompanist Mr Thomas Wong, Concert Choir presented various Chinese and Western works on stage. The second half of concert began with a member’s djembe solo, while other members danced to enter the stage singing Jubilate Deo, followed by several western compositions such as Oremus in a cappella and Wind which praises the God.
The concert also featured the Hong Kong Premiere of 2 songs, Here’s to Life and Two Poems of Chan Zi-an. Being the composer of Here’s to Life, accompanist Mr Thomas Wong played an impressive cello solo during the song. In the part Chinese Ethnic Charms, members performed Playing Loud on the Gourd Sheng, Chanty on Wusuli River and Wai Saluo with different instruments and ethnic dances, showing their versatile talents.
HKCC was honoured to have the composers of the programme to join the concert as a guest, including Jason Liu, the HKCC alumnus who wrote The Moonlight and Wang Guang-yu, the composer of Two Poems of Chan Zi-an. The choir and audience thanked them for writing the beautiful works with thunderous applauses.
At last, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of HKSAR, all the performing members presented 20th Anniversary of HKSAR Medley, drawing a perfect end to the concert.
